For my Contemporary Project, I have chosen the implementation of iPads. This was done at the school I previously taught at. In 2011, an iPad program was implemented, and iPads were given to the senior students as well as the high school staff. As teachers, we were encouraged by the administration to incorporate the use of the iPads in our instruction as well as the student's use of the iPad in class. When looking back, a change that I would make a second time around would be to try and use the iPad in my personal instruction than I had done. During the implementation, I mainly focused on the use of the iPads by the students and did not use it to its full potential. Overall, the students responded well to the implementation of the iPads. They were encouraged to use them as much as possible and in every class. The iPads acted as their notebooks, books, textbooks, and portable computer. The students loved the compact portability of the iPad.
For my Innovative Project, I chose Project Based Learning (PBL). Project based learning is a great way to engage students in the curriculum and it also gives them ownership of their work. When implementing PBL, I didn't see any necessary changes that needed to be made while implementing. I did have to devote more time to planning out the projects and the their implementation. It required more work and time than the normal lessons had. The students responded in a positive way to PBL and enjoyed the different projects that went along and enriched the curriculum.
