Contemporary Project: The use of ipads in the classroom
For my contemporary project, I chose the implemenattion of ipads in the classroom. Ipads were given to the seniors at the high school I taught at. A change that had to be made early into the implementation process was the access allowed to students on the device. When we first gave the ipads to the students, limited controls were in place. We quickly learned that this was not going to work. With the limited controls, students were downloading too many games and the games were bogging down the devices. These games were also acting as distractions in the classroom as well. To fix the problem, the technology coordinator put in place much stricter controls and students were no longer able to download apps on their own. This change didnt have a huge impact on the study but did make the process of downloading new apps a little more difficult. This is because students were no longer albe to download the new app in class but had to do so through the tech coordinator. As teachers, if we wanted a new app to use in class, we had to plan enough time to get the app downloaded onto the device before using them in class. This was a disadvantage.

Personally I find having to get IT for everything to be sooo frustrating. I'm hopeful that in the future there will be an easier way to allow our students to use technology in a learning environment and still allow teachers to have a reasonable level of control of what they can view during class time.

It's too bad teachers can't have "limited" access...more than the students (be able to download certain apps) but nothing that would hurt the computers. I am NOT a tech person! I love our tech people (and my dad for my personal computer) so this may not even be possible. Just a hope for the future!
